Punjab Government Escalates War on Drugs with Massive Sports Infrastructure Overhaul and 6,000 New Stadiums

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema announces the construction of 6,000 new stadiums and a ₹50 crore infrastructure boost for Raja Sansi to combat the drug menace. Inaugurating the Kabaddi Cup in memory of martyr Bhai Mewa Singh Lopoke, the government reaffirms its commitment to the Yudh Nasheyan Virudh campaign and the restoration of "Rangla Punjab" through sports and development.

In a definitive move to dismantle the grip of narcotics on the state's youth, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has announced an aggressive administrative push to pivot the younger generation toward athletic excellence through the construction of 6,000 new stadiums across the province. This massive infrastructure undertaking builds upon the 3,000 facilities already developed by the state government, signaling a monumental shift in the regional strategy to foster a "Rangla Punjab." While inaugurating the first-ever Kabaddi Cup held at the Shaheed Bhai Mewa Singh Lopoke Stadium in Lopoke, Amritsar, the Finance Minister underscored the dual-pronged approach of the "Yudh Nasheyan Virudh" campaign, which combines a rigorous law enforcement crackdown on drug traffickers with a robust expansion of sports culture and employment opportunities.

The inaugural Kabaddi Cup was organized in memory of the historic figure Shaheed Bhai Mewa Singh Lopoke, a resident of Lopoke village and the first Sikh martyr in Canada who sacrificed his life for his nation and community. Minister Cheema lauded the commendable efforts of Sonia Mann, the in-charge of the Yudh Nasheyan Virudh campaign, and her dedicated team for spearheading the event. Highlighting the sociopolitical weight of the initiative, the Finance Minister emphasized that connecting youth with sports is the primary shield against the drug menace, asserting that such budgetary provisions are specifically designed to help Punjab’s athletes once again bring laurels at both national and international levels.

Addressing the legislative and enforcement successes of the anti-drug crusade, Harpal Singh Cheema reported that the "Yudh Nasheyan Virudh" campaign has achieved significant milestones, resulting in the arrest and incarceration of several high-profile drug traffickers. He reiterated that the Bhagwant Mann government remains unflinchingly committed to eradicating the drug trade from its roots. Beyond the statewide stadium initiative, the Finance Minister outlined specific development allocations, including ₹50 crore earmarked for infrastructure works to transform the Raja Sansi Assembly constituency and a dedicated ₹20 lakh for the development of the historic village of Lopoke.

Sonia Mann expressed her gratitude to the local community for organizing the tournament and thanked the Punjab government for its support in honoring the legacy of Shaheed Bhai Mewa Singh Lopoke. This comprehensive developmental and athletic surge marks a critical turning point in Punjab's official efforts to restore societal glory and secure a drug-free future for its citizens.
